HAPPY HALLOWEEN to all of you stylish ghouls! Since Halloween is all about personal expression, I can't think of a better haunt to help us celebrate the day than William. William is a performance artist, and when it comes to expressing his own style, he's fearless (some pun intended).
Is this a look that I'd promote or wear as fall style? Not really. But IDFC. On a day that's all about tossing aside norms of what's acceptable, I think we can take a moment to celebrate the fact that William pursues his own personal style with intentionality and fearlessness. Those are the building blocks of any personal style expression, and they are key for anyone who wants to start taking style risks. Even though William goes in a different direction than I would with his style, he still incorporates so many of the same principles we talk about here every day at North & Kedzie.
Exhibit A: He blends a variety of fabrics and textures together. Just look at those leather pants and boots combined with a velvet sweater and a silk shirt. It's texture for days.
Exhibit B: He frames graphics with solids. The sweater clearly tones down the bold prints on his shirt.
Exhibit C: He sticks within an unmistakably fall set of complimentary colors. Maroon and red are complimented by yellow and orange, and they're all colors that are extraordinarily popular this fall.
This Halloween, let's remember that what makes style so much fun is the ability to use clothing to take risks and express who we are through what we wear. Whether we align ourselves with popular trends or branch off into a look that's all our own, the first step in personal style is always finding the willingness to be like William and take the risk of putting oneself out there.
Happy Halloween, my stylish devils!
