I'M NOT USUALLY one for souvenirs. If it's not obvious enough from the fact that I stop strangers on the street for a living, I really like people. So the best memories I can take with me from any trip are those that I get to make with others. New friends. New experiences. The thousand different ways that we as human being choose to live our lives.
Or at least that's my typical M.O. Then I walked into UNIQLO in Soho. That's where I stumbled on one of their best kept style secrets: the SPRZ NY collection. TBH, I'm a little miffed that this set of curious collaborations is only available in NYC or online at the moment, but I'm hoping that they'll be here in Chicago soon. Because they're amazing.
I'll highlight a couple of others in the coming week, but the graphic tee you see here is definitely my fav NYC souvenir. They call it The City and the Subway, and I can't tell you how spot on that is. The subway plays such a big role in NYC life. But it's remarkable how easy it is to figure out. That's probably due in large part to the design work of Massimo Vignelli, whose now iconic color circles are celebrated in this shirt.
Is the shirt loud and proud? Yup! So I've framed it with a simple jean shirt and deep blue pants. But I wanted to keep the look a little funky, so I grabbed a pair of red Polo shoes I picked up a few years ago and threw those on to carry some of the color from neck to toe. It's a simple, casual look, but it's also keenly stylish for whatever weekend adventures you might have. I know I'll be thinking about my adventures in NYC every time I put it on.
